Low back pain is very common

  • 80% of all adults will experience lower back pain at some point in their life

  • Low back pain can come on suddenly as a result of an injury or slowly over time

  • The causes of lower back pain can range from very simple to very complex reasons

What causes low back pain?

There are many potential causes of lower back pain, but there are two that are the most common sources that we see here:

  • Mechanical causes

    • Mechanical issues are by far the most common causes of lower back pain

    • This kind of pain arises from the muscles, ligaments, and joints of the lower back

    • Lumbar sprains and strains are the most common forms of mechanical lower back pain

    • Lack of stability, flexibility, and abnormal loading of the spine are also common causes for mechanical lower back pain

  • Nerve issues

    • Radiculopathy or pain from a pinched nerve or stretched nerve are common causes for low back pain

    • Lumbar radiculopathy is most commonly caused by a bulging or herniated disc that compresses one of the spinal nerves that exit the spinal canal

How is a low back pain treated?

The treatment of lower back pain needs to be customized for each patient and presentation. At this office, the most commonly used treatments are:

  • Chiropractic manipulation

  • Therapeutic stretches and exercises

  • Myofascial release

  • Acupuncture and dry needling

  • Massage
