Pinched Nerve
Cervical radiculopathy is often called a “pinched nerve”, and it occurs when one of the spinal nerves exiting the spinal cord becomes compressed. This can cause pain in your neck, upper back, shoulder, and arm. It can also cause weakness and numbness in that arm and hand.
In the older population, a pinched nerve or cervical radiculopathy can be caused by a narrowing of the space between each vertebra from things such as arthritis and disc degeneration.
In the younger population, the cause of a pinched nerve is often a herniated disc, which can either be from a traumatic injury or from no identifiable cause.
A pinched nerve generally responds positively to conservative care. At Prairie Life Chiropractic in Sioux Center, we treat this condition with spinal manipulation, therapeutic exercises, acupuncture or a combination of these treatments.
