Concussion

Nearly 20% of all athletes between 8th and 12th grade report having one concussion during their lifetime, and 5.5% of athletes report being diagnosed with more than one concussion.

A concussion is a traumatic brain injury most often caused by a bump, blow, or violent change in direction to the head resulting in a disruption of normal brain function. The affects of concussions can be cumulative, and the most dangerous time to receive a concussion is while you are still recovering from a previous concussion, which makes the diagnosis of a concussion and the following protocols extremely important.

At Prairie Life Chiropractic, we first start with properly diagnosing a concussion, monitoring its healing, and then treating some of the associated issues that arise from a blow to the head. At each visit following a concussion, your symptoms will be graded, recommended activity levels will be prescribed as part of the concussion protocol, and treatment will be administered to any areas that may be causing pain or slowing your recovery following your incident.
