What Should I Expect During my Acupuncture Treatment in Sioux Center?

At the beginning of your first acupuncture session at our clinic in Sioux Center, you will be able to discuss your chief complaint with Dr. Kosters. Next, he will take a thorough history complete with a physical examination. After the results are analyzed, we will identify the specific areas and develop an individualized treatment plan. After the sterile, single use needles are inserted, patients typically rest for 15-20 minutes as the treatment takes its effect. The total visit typically lasts around 30 minutes. During the treatment, Dr. Kosters may perform needle manipulation, which is the gentle moving or twirling of the needle in order to further stimulate the therapeutic response.  If warranted, electrical stimulation may also be applied to intensify this response. As with many conditions, the treatment effect can vary depending on the severity of the problem. Many patients report feeling immediate relief, while others describe noticing changes up to two days following their appointment. Depending on the patient and the number of visits, relief may last anywhere from a few hours to several weeks. It is important to monitor changes in your symptoms so that your treatment schedule can be altered appropriately.
